The August Break…

Or for us, the August start up.  I was perusing Betz White’s blog today, and she was discussing her participation in The August Break.

Here’s the scoop: "Okay, here’s the plan for the August Break: you simply share one photo (or more!) per day on your blog – Monday to Friday, or every day. Or whenever you feel moved to share. Using any camera – DSLR, compact, Polaroid, Holga, iPhone (my choice), Instax, film or digital – with or without words – anything goes! – for the whole of August. No pressure – just looking at August through your camera lens as a way to be more present this summer. And to have a little break from the pressures and expectations of regular blogging."

Now, she’s using it as a break.  I’m thinking it’s not applicable as a break if one has only had like 3 blog posts in the last 6 months.  So, I’m thinking of it as more of a jump start…a way to show you some of the cool stuff we’ve been up to this summer; a way for us to reflect on the fun we’ve had and smile at some happy memories, and a way for me to feel less guilty about not wanting to spend time posting little ditties of words and instead spend time sewing for the baby boy who in just a few months will be met by loving arms here at the house where we live.

So, please to enjoy…

Quality time

So we all got strep throat this weekend – again! Yuck.  It did give us a good excuse to stick close to home and spend some time together.

Old Timey Family Christmas

12 18 10_0070

We were able to use an early Christmas gift this past weekend to take part in a Christmas Celebration of days gone by.

There were beautiful views all around us – only marred by some little kid with pig tails chanting “Ride a horse!”
for several hours… Really, who would tell their child about the horses at, oh, 10:30am when they weren’t going to see them until 2pm?

(insert uncomfortable silence and me looking at the floor here)

We frosted cookies at the Belgian Farmhouse.

Danced to the dulcimer in the Hospital building.

Printed a Christmas message at the Print Shop.

Listened to the choir at the Moravian Church… and then yelled, “more, more?”

And finally rode the horses.

And then the sun set on what was a really great family day.

Dear Santa, you’ve lost one.

Say “Santa” to Maggie, you’ll get a half-hearted  “ho, ho”.   Mention Rudolph? Now that’s where it’s at!  You’ll get a shimmy, a dance, a yelp, and a little girl frantic to find her stuffed Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, or better yet...
