Once upon a time things were all gumdrops and unicorns.

Once upon a time things were all gumdrops and unicorns.
As parents we couldn’t imagine that our little girl would ever be that kid in public.  You know, the one who’s screaming and throwing a fit as his/her parents look on with dismay and try desperately to look less embarrassed then they feel.

Yeah. Uh huh.  Nice try folks.  We’ve hit meltdown city here…and I don’t think anyone’s booked us a return ticket back to happyland.  So it looks like we’ll be spending all of our Maggie time at home.  That’s right, we’ll be staying in this house until she turns 3, which is in 1 year and 17 days… that’s not too long not to take your child out in public is it?

Look at those eyes – scheming, planning…

For this.

Quality time

So we all got strep throat this weekend – again! Yuck.  It did give us a good excuse to stick close to home and spend some time together.

Rumplestiltskin Challenge

A friend of mine proposed a challenge recently.  It’s not just a challenge for me, but it most definitely applies to the over abundant stash of crafting stuff that has taken roost upstairs.  When we moved Kole was amazed disgusted by the number of boxes labeled [CRAFT ROOM].  I didn’t count them.  I did purge before we moved…I just wasn’t quite ready to part with some things, and now, well, now it’s just about gotten the best of me.  So the challenge is a great reason to get organized & start using up some of that fabric I’ve amassed!  I got started post haste.

Little draft dodgers were completed for our doors.  I used some Alexander Henry fabric leftover from a purse I made last spring.  I had been squirreling it away for many months now, and this project seemed perfect as we’ll get to enjoy these prints all winter long.  Maggie helped fill them with rice.  I’m embarrassed to say that in the process I spilled more rice on the floor than she did.

I also finished up a hat I started in November.  It’s pretty basic, but it’s the very first adult size hat I’ve made!

And finally I finished up a replica of this wreath as a very late Christmas gift for a friend.   Perhaps strep throat wasn’t such a bad thing.  Seems I was pretty productive.

Holiday Recap Day 6: New Year’s Eve

12 31 10_0408

We spent the afternoon at the Building for Kids.  Noodles and Co. was doing free food, and there was quite a bit for Mags to see and do – like hula-hooping,

playing with balls,

coloring,

and discovering that boy baby dolls have different parts than girl baby dolls. I think we mortified some mom while we were there.    The lady had “warned” us that the doll Maggie was playing with was a boy baby doll and subtly suggested that we not let Maggie play with it because it was “different”.  We ignored her. Maggie figured out that mr. doll had some bits and pieces not included on ms. doll.  We don’t think she’ll be scarred for life.

Holiday Recap Day 5: Where Maggie spent the day after Christmas.

So much for all those shiny new (to us) gifts – the dog kennel provided more entertainment.

Farkle is a pretty easy dice game – we are HUGE fans.  Well, Maggie and I are HUGE fans.  Kole is a graceful loser. Smile

Holiday Recap Day 3: Christmas morning

12 25 10_0199

Kole got a reindeer sweater – not quite as gaudy as one might hope, but after 4 years of thrift searches, this is the first one I found.

12 25 10_0179

I found Maggie Mercer Mayer’s The Snowy Day, a book I really enjoyed as a child.  We’ve been reading it fairly often.

12 25 10_0155

Maggie got some new camping gear – the Fisher Price nature campsite.

And a doctor’s kit.

12 25 10_0165

Wally helped open gifts when Maggie started slowing down.

Oh, and the table and chairs were very well received.  She has spent quite a bit of time practicing her understanding of the word not with them – not pink, blue (Maggie rearranges all chairs so blue is next to her), not yellow, pink (rearrange again), not pink, blue (rearrange again)… you get the picture.
